The aim of PSHCE at
the Link is to provide opportunities that will help to develop
skills that will enable the learner to become a confident,
caring, competent and sensitive member of society in accordance
with their own aptitude.
We achieve this aim by ensuring we provide our pupils with
opportunities to:
-
Grow and learn with positive self esteem,
confidence, enthusiasm and motivation;
-
Acquire the necessary skills to express
personal feelings and to cope with change;
-
Gain an understanding of the physical,
emotional and social changes that take place at puberty and
through adolescence.
-
Understand the need for personal
cleanliness and the importance of diet and exercise.
-
Learn how to keep safe and become an
independent traveler.
-
Plan and make choices with regard to
possible future options.
-
Develop an awareness and respect towards
others and the environment, including the ability to listen
and empathise with other people and to be considerate and
sympathetic;
-
Learn the skills and attitudes which
enable them to become socially competent within our society;
-
Understand that there are consequences to
actions in order that they are able to take responsibility
for their own actions.
PSHCE is taught
throughout the school on a weekly basis and lessons are
discussion and activity based. PSHCE encompasses Career
Education, Citizenship and Sex and Relationship Education. It
involves outside agencies e.g. the Police coming into school, as
well as trips out of school, e.g. to the local Magistrates
Courts in year 11. There is also a program of independent
travel. Major themes of PSHCE are developed through the whole
school curriculum; through ASDAN in KS4, Assemblies and school
trips. |
