At KS3 and
KS4 all pupils follow the programmes of study of the National
Curriculum.
The
learning style is hands on and very practical. Pupils take part
in organised trips to local amenities which include plant
nurseries, shops, The Sutton Ecology Centre, Dean City Farm and
museums.
Within the
Link School the pupils benefit from many resources. For example,
our pond has a solar powered fountain, there is a computer
controlled weather station, (which, provides an excellent data
logging tool) and an integrated computer white board system. The
school grounds also serve as a natural working resource to
enlighten, expand and generate curiosity. We have a dedicated
laboratory with excellent facilities that enables pupils to
complete the practical work necessary to access the curriculum.
Various
forms of wildlife are available to observe and study within the
classroom. Pupils take alternating responsibility for looking
after stick insects and a hamster. This allows each class to
learn about caring for animals, nature and team work.
At KS4 all
pupils follow the new Edexcel 360 at Entry Level. Some pupils
who wish to extend themselves can additionally follow the GCSE
Single Science (AQA).
Speech and
language therapists play a major part both in lesson
organisation and within class to support the specific learning
needs of individual pupils. In addition, the use of Paget Gorman
signed speech ensures that pupils access science language that
they may find abstract, enabling pupils to better understand and
use such language.
