About Humanities
Humanities, the study of History
and Geography, is timetabled at KS3 for every pupil at The Link
Secondary School. The pupils alternate between the two subjects
during the first 3 years at the school exploring and following
the programmes of the National Curriculum.
At The Link we aim to bring these
subjects to life by making use of our local and wider community
and pupils visit places of historical and geographical interest
during the course.
Hampton Court provides an
excellent resource for studying the Tudors and Henry V111 whilst
a visit to Bough Beech reservoir shows at first hand how water
is stored, cleaned and pumped to our homes.
Later, in KS4, the pupils follow
the ASDAN award scheme and, as a part of the course complete
units on the local environment exploring the local resources and
visiting Beddington Park, surveying and analysing the
facilities. As a part of the ASDAN challenges the pupils also
organise the school’s visit to Tanner’s Hatch Youth Hostel. This
is a ‘hands on’ task which entails research into how the
countryside is used for leisure, the health and safety
implications of our visit, following the Countryside Code as
well as green issues.
The understanding and delivery of
the complex and ambiguous language contained within Humanities
is supported by the work of our Speech and Language Therapists
who work alongside the teachers. |
