About PE and Games
Physical
Education is taught throughout the school. Every pupil has
an afternoon of games, off site and a single lesson taught in
class groups of gymnastics and dance.
Our full and
varied programme encourages both
individual
fitness and the enjoyment that comes from mastering physical
skills and working in a team. Varied activities are
offered including gymnastics, dance, swimming, ball skills, team
games (football, Basketball, unihoc, cricket), athletics, racket
sports (badminton) and occasionally cycling: these give
opportunity for individuals to develop co-ordination skills,
team work, fitness, and body management. We use a variety
of local facilities in order to familiarise pupils with leisure
amenities they may wish to use in their own time,
including Sutton Arena, Sutton Youth Centre, Plough Lane cricket
ground, New Addington Swimming pool.
All pupils
are encouraged to take part in a range of outdoor activities:
team building, canoeing, bell boating and climbing. The
emphasis is on participation and enjoyment. We follow the
National Curriculum and National awards as appropriate;
qualifications are taken in gymnastics, swimming, and athletics.
The school is affiliated to the Surrey Special Schools Sports
Association taking part in specific events, i.e. cross country,
football, unihoc, day of dance.
We also take
part in some LSF (London Sports Forum) events, which has led to
pupils representing The London Borough of Sutton in the London
Youth Games. |
